The Provost held his second session on Monday, November 17, 2025, 7:30-9:00a.m. on the Health Science campus. There were 15 faculty present. The Administration was represented by Provost McKinney, Executive Vice Provost Molitor, and UT Legal Counsel Janelle Schaller,
The final Provost session will be on Monday, November 24,2025 from noon to 1:30p.m. in Stranahan Hall, Room 129.
We learned at the session on Monday that the Chancellor has mandated that the following questions shall be included in each institution of higher education’s student evaluation of faculty:
- Does the faculty member create a classroom atmosphere free of political, racial, gender, and religious bias? Yes / No
- Are students encouraged to discuss varying opinions and viewpoints in class? Yes / No / Not applicable
- On a scale of 1-10, how effective are the teaching methods of this faculty member?
The scale of 1-10 in question #3 above measures the effectiveness of the faculty member with 1 being not effective at all and 10 being extremely effective.
You can find these questions and other SB1 information at https://highered.ohio.gov/educators/academic-programs-policies/sb1/sb1.
We also learned from both of the Provost sessions that the five policies were drafted by UT Legal Counsel, Janelle Schaller. She has admitted that the policies contain provisions not in SB-1. This confirms the legal analysis by our law firm, Allotta Farley.
The UT-AAUP will be scheduling a membership meeting to present the UT-AAUP positions on the SB-1 policies. This will be limited to members.
