Tuition Waiver Policy

Posted on November 23, 2025 by utaaup

File for Spring 2026 tuition waiver NOW

The tuition waiver benefit for the UT-AAUP membership is covered by UT Policy 3364-25-35 dated December 20, 2019. It is attached to the UT-AAUP CBAs for T/TT, Law faculty and Lecturers. Because the Policy is attached to the CBAs, it is part of each CBA and is not subject to changes by the Administration.

The Administration has made changes to the tuition policy that applies to the entire campus except the UT-AAUP faculty. The most significant change requires a dependent to be “degree seeking” to receive the tuition waiver. The Administration has offered no explanation for this requirement, but it prevents a dependent such as a spouse or child from receiving tuition waiver unless the dependent is degree seeking. This change and others were rejected by the UT-AAUP. Our Tuition Waiver Policy, attached to the CBAs does not require “degree seeking” status.

The Administration is able to set the deadline for the faculty tuition waiver application. For Spring 2026, they have set the deadline at January 5, 2026 which is about two weeks earlier than the date for other UT employees under the campus-wide policy. Some UT-AAUP members may be confused and mistakenly apply two weeks late thereby losing the Spring 2026 tuition waiver.

The setting of this early deadline is being done for Fall, Spring, and Summer. It is an inconvenience because early registration is required and there is no recourse for late registration. We have been told by the Administration this is intentional because the Union will not agree to a “degree seeking” requirement by the Administration for dependents.

Over one-third of our UT-AAUP members use the tuition waiver. Please timely file your Spring 2026 tuition waiver application on or before January 5, 2026.
