The attached summary by UT-AAUP legal counsel Jon Winters, reflects SB-1 changes to the Terms and Conditions of UT-AAUP faculty employment that have traditionally been the subject of collective bargaining. Please note that Evaluation, Tenure, and Retrenchment are currently contained within the CBAs and cannot be changed without mutual agreement with the Union. UT-AAUP is the exclusive bargaining agent for all terms and conditions of employment and is the only body legally authorized to discuss and bargain with the Administration about these and other terms and conditions of employment.
All of the Terms and Conditions of employment in all three UT-AAUP CBAs – T/TT, Lecturers, and Law Faculty remain in force for the next two years until June 30, 2027. This is stated in SB-1 and has been acknowledged by the Administration. The CBAs cannot be unilaterally changed by the Administration without the agreement of the UT-AAUP and its members.
The UT-AAUP emphasizes that only it represents the faculty as to terms and conditions of employment. Again, only the UT-AAUP is legally authorized to discuss and bargain with the Administration on terms and conditions of employment for the bargaining units.
The UT-AAUP will hold a membership meeting early in the Fall Semester to discuss this newsletter and answer questions.
