The Postel Administration hired the Huron Consulting Group in late 2020 to review UT finances and budgetary processes. Huron gave a report to the Deans last November 4, 2021. After multiple requests under the Ohio Public Records Act to UT Legal Affairs, the UT-AAUP obtained a copy of the Huron report presented to the Deans. We are not aware of any Dean sharing the report or its content with faculty.

The report comprises a 50-page slide presentation focused on so-called UT instructional efficiency and the new academic budget. There are errors in the report. For example, Slide 50 reports the Athletic Budget as $21 million. The $21 million is a deficit that has to be covered by Academics including student fees. This is consistent with President Postel’s report to Senate that the Athletic losses are $20 million. The UT-AAUP believes the losses are $25 million. The Athletic Budget of $33 million is larger than any college budget except for the College of Medicine. Huron is proposing Athletic budget cuts of $690,000 to $1.1 million that are nominal compared with the cuts to Academics. Huron also recommends that Athletics make increased investments in Men’s basketball, baseball, and Women’s golf which is inconsistent with the proposed budget cuts.
We would like to see the Huron consulting fee budget compared to the UT budget for student recruitment.
