The UT-AAUP/CWA picketing yesterday was attended by over 100 picketers. The Blade reported “60”, but that was the number of signs, not the number of picketers. We had prepared only 60 picket signs and were surprised by the large turn-out which swelled to a peak of over 100. The UT-AAUP faculty, staff, and students turned-out to have their voice heard.
The picketing included presidents, officers, and members of the CWA, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, UAW, Teamsters, Lucas County Commissioners Pete Gerken and Lisa Sobecki, former Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, the “Bancroft drive-by-and-honk ” brigade including UT buses, and numerous other supporters.
The media was represented by The Blade, The Truth, The Collegian, WTOL Channel 11, and WTVG Channel 13.
We have received requests to display picket signs at the Homecoming Parade through Old Orchard on Saturday morning. If you are interested in doing this, please email at staff.utaaup@gmail.com
